Reagan Balozi opened his first African art store in 2010 and this granted him he opportunity to embark on his journey with Tanzanite, of which he had always been passionate.
As a child, with relatives working down the mine, he was fascinated by the deep blues and purples and the flowing changes of colour hidden within the jewel. As he grew, he loved to hear stories from his uncle and eventually he began to have a deep understanding of the science behind the gemstone and a rare talent in the design of the beautiful jewellery pieces it could inspire.
When Reagan started to design his own collections and entered the mining world, a growing relationship of respect and relationship of respect and friendship emerged with Tanzanian miners and the true stories of danger, disrespect and exploitation emerged. Upon questioned his uncle, he learnt of the ill treatment that these workers had endured for years and from this moment he dedicated himself to creating honest opportunities, including education, safety, business and an entry to a fair market.
